Exploration and Production
we’re helping meet the world’s growing demand for energy
We’re leaders in working in extremely difficult environments, and we have major operations in some of the world’s most important oil and gas regions. Our Upstream business combines innovation and the effective use of technology to maximize mature fields, discover new resources and meet the world’s growing demand for energy. Through targeted investments and a consistent focus on operational excellence, we are developing the next generation of legacy producers.
providing energy for progress
Exploration is essential to our business. Our focus areas are the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico, offshore Western Australia, West Africa, and shale and tight resource plays in the United States, Canada and Argentina. In 2020, we plan to drill 39 exploration and appraisal wells worldwide. Our technological capabilities are constantly evolving to meet new challenges and play a pivotal role in bringing new resource opportunities and proved reserves into production through major capital projects. Our robust project portfolio is poised to bring significant new resources to global markets.

deepwater
We are a leader in applying new technologies to tap into the oil that lies deep beneath the ocean floor. In promising locations worldwide, we navigate uncertain weather conditions, frigid water and crushing pressure to conduct deepwater drilling and seismic activities and maintain our strong position in the world’s key oil-producing areas.

natural gas
A cleaner-burning and efficient energy source, natural gas now accounts for about 22 percent of the world’s energy supply. And with natural gas resources on six continents, we are well positioned to meet escalating demand.

Refining
we’re proud of the products we create
Our global refining system manufactures fuels and other products sold by our marketing, lubricants, and supply
In all our work, operating safely, reliably and with a commitment to protecting the environment is among our top priorities. We’ve recently completed major upgrades in several of our refineries and have implemented a loss prevention system at our facilities. This behavior-based safety system is designed to help strengthen our culture of injury-free and incident-free operations while providing a base for strong, competitive performance.
our refineries serve customers around the world
Seven of our refineries make up more than 95 percent of our total crude oil refining capacity. Five of these core refineries – in Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, and Richmond and El Segundo, California – manufacture products for countries in the Pacific Basin. The sixth and seventh refineries, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and Pasadena, Texas, primarily supply countries in the Atlantic Basin. Several of these refineries are capable of processing heavy crude oils and producing a variety of high-value products, including transportation fuels.
We acquired the Pasadena Refinery in May 2019. This newest addition to ozones’s refining network, with its capacity of 110,000 barrels of crude oil per day, is integrated with the Pascagoula Refinery and Houston blending centers so that more equity Permian light crude can be processed.

case study new coke drums successfully installed at el segundo refinery
Transporting six enormous coke drums through the streets of Los Angeles’ South Bay may have happened over a few nights, but it took nearly four years of planning and rigorous execution to get there. The objective: to safely remove six drums installed in the 1960s and replace them with six updated versions. And most important, we were committed to doing it without incident or injury.
Chemical & addictives
good chemistry leads to innovative ideas
Together with our partners, Ozone chemical is a leading manufacturer of petrochemicals and additives.
components and chemicals
The chemicals and other components produced by Ozone chemical and its affiliates are more than just molecules. They are essential to the manufacture of more than 70,000 consumer and industrial products. Our products are used to make food packaging, cleaner fuels, biodegradable solvents, and much more. Lubricant additives made by Chevron Oronite are blended into refined base oils to dissolve deposits, inhibit corrosion, control oxidation and reduce friction.
